guitar hat

Download the lead sheet with lyrics: Guitar_Hat

My missus was convinced at one point that if I was going to perform in public, I should be wearing a hat. I thought that was great advice and I never took it, but I did write a song about it.  Should you wear a hat? Well you’ll have to decide for yourself but here are some things you might consider.

It’s quite ok to wear a hat while
Strumming your guitar.
It helps your audience to see
Precisely who you are.
It shows one’s sense of style-
panache, ones verve and savior-faire;
In my case it would help to hide
A pronounced lack of hair!

A hat makes quite a statement!
Be prepared though for beratement-
You’ll be strumming’ behind bars mate,
If the rest of you is bare.

Depending on the tunes for which your
Audience is keen,
There are many types of lids you might
Consider for your bean.

For country music ‘course you might
Could use a cowboy hat
And if Kurt Cobain’s your man
Your cover comes with two ear flaps.

There are fedoras for the jazzy
And a baseball cap will do for
Just the widest range of genres,
Front-to-back for hip hop too.

Now pick your headgear with some care
And that will take you far-
Let us also hope you spend some time
At practicing guitar!

Never being able to master the guitar is both the worst thing and the best thing about guitar.
